The UK’s questionable solar power strategy
Should the government of a country that is ranked last but one in a global list for solar power potential be so ready to sacrifice hundreds of thousands of acres of farmland for solar development?
If solar power in the UK can only contribute just over 15% a year to our electricity needs even when it’s hit its massive 2035 70GW target, how can the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero justify flooding field after field with solar infrastructure?
When lithium-ion battery banks heading to rural communities come with fire and explosion risks and give developers the chance to make multimillions with highly profitable energy trading, should the Department really be encouraging them to concrete over so much countryside with compounds full of thousands of battery cells?
Before the Energy Secretary allows developers to carpet our countryside with solar panels covering farmland the size of a county we’ve got questions for him……
